Arsenal vs Tottenham
This Sunday in the Premier League it’s derby day.
Liverpool take on Everton at Anfield, while Arsenal host Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium.
Spurs come into the Gunners game with a three point buffer over their rivals.
However, Arsenal will leapfrog the Lillywhites with a win this weekend as both north London sides have a +12 goal difference.
Referee Mike Dean is appointed
On Tuesday, the Premier League have confirmed that Mike Dean will be in charge of the NLD.
Almost twelve months ago, Mike Dean was slammed by Mauricio Pochettino for his “massive mistake” in the derby against Arsenal.
Arsenal took the lead on that occasion through a Shkodran Mustafi header, but Spurs felt aggrieved for two reasons.
Firstly Tottenham felt the free-kick decision leading to the goal shouldn’t have stood. While Mustafi was offside before he found the target.
Pochettino remarked “In the end there was a massive mistake like this: it was not one mistake, it was two mistakes. It was not a foul and it was offside.”
Arsenal won the match 2-0.
Cue the conspiracy theories
It’s fair to say, however, that conspiracy theories about Mike Dean cut both ways.
Many Arsenal fans believe the referee harbours a Tottenham bias.
Cue the following social media reaction.

Mike Dean is the referee for the North London Derby. He’s definitely going to give them a penalty, isn’t he? BRB, I’m laughing myself to death.

Mike Dean to ref again on Sunday. No repeats of Gooners scoring from a free kick given for nothing and two offside goals please.
